The Morning Session.
Our day begins with your child being welcomed into the Rowans and should you wish it, there is always time available for you to talk to their key worker.
Once settled, your child will be able to engage in free play – this is a time of rich social interaction during which the children begin to learn and develop the fundamental skills of life: communication, listening, sharing and friendship; it’s also a time for self-expression and creativity. An age-appropriate activity will take place such as preparation of (largely organic) food for snack time, baking, painting, or a seasonal craft.
After play, the room is tidied, with the children and adults working together. We feel the group tidying sessions encourage the foundations of co-operation and team work in a gentle way, as well as making their space ready for circle time.
Circle Time
Circle time is a joyful experience which helps your child’s social, emotional and physical development through sharing songs, poems and ring games; it also gently encourages the beginnings of numeracy and literacy in a subtle, engaging and supportive way. Parents report that many of the songs and rhymes become favourites which are sung at home!
After our circle games, we wash our hands, then we all sit down around the table to eat a healthy snack that the children may have helped to prepare. The children learn that we have time to help one another, to talk and listen, and learn suitable table behaviour as we enjoy sharing a meal together. Once our meal is cleared away, we help the children to dress in outdoor clothing suitable for the weather; they then are able to enjoy the freedom of the safe garden making their own discoveries about nature and the world around them through play. When the children come in from the garden and have washed their hands we settle down ready for Story Time which consists of a seasonal age-appropriate story.
