Here is a news story about a former Michael House pupil, Rebecca Peel, and her recent success!
A Bilborough Sixth Form College student is heading to Indonesia to represent Britain at an international biology competition.
Rebecca Peel finished in the top 12 in the country – out of more than 5,000 students – in round two of the British Biology Olympiad (BBO) and went on to compete in the national final at the University of Warwick.
At the national final, she was one of four students selected to represent the UK at the 2014 International Biology Olympiad (IBO) which is being held in Bali between July 6th and 13th 2014.
The IBO seeks to challenge students with theory and practical tests and some of the top pre-university biology students from 60 countries will be taking part.
Rebecca Smith, Assistant Curriculum Manager for Biology, said the Biology Olympiad was a great opportunity for Bilborough students to demonstrate their biology knowledge and take their learning beyond the A-level syllabus.
She said: “Twelve of our Bilborough students took part in the Olympiad this year and worked hard to achieve our highest ever set of results including five Bronze, two Silver and two Gold Medals. It was an outstanding achievement by Rebecca to finish in the final 12 out of the 5,057 students who took part in this year’s competition and she has really done herself and the college proud.
“She is excited to have progressed this far and it will be a real opportunity for Rebecca to show off her skills. Rebecca is an extremely talented biologist and as she nears the end of her A-level studies it is a fitting conclusion that she has been rewarded with a place on the UK team. I wish her every success.”
