Any of us who have heard or seen Nicola Dunne, Clare Cunliffe or Adam Saunders perform before knew that we were in for a rare treat but they all gave us a night to remember and at this point I pause…. because I just don’t have enough superlatives to describe the talents of these three parents.Nicola, accompanied by Adam Saunders on piano started the concert with Bach/Gounod’s Ave Maria and about three notes in; the totally beautiful sound hitting my ears was so uplifting that tears pricked my eyes. Nicola wowed us with a magical assortment of light classical and operatic music and it would be so difficult to choose a favourite.
You can take it from me that you don’t have to be a musical person to appreciate the sheer brilliance of Nicola’s voice. We had a brief interval where we enjoyed delicious cakes and refreshments and then back in our seats for ‘Swingtime Songbird and the Sophisticats’. ‘Songbird and the Cats’ comprised Clare Cunliffe as lead singer, Adam Saunders, band leader and pianist, Andrew McNeill on Saxophone, Steve Saunders on Bass Guitar and David Fletcher on drums. More all-round excellence; the band, the vocals, the vintage style the costumes….all FABULOUS and Clare, the lead singer was extremely entertaining as she hit every note perfectly. We relished several vintage themes and costume changes. I loved them all but I have to say that
Clare was an especially gorgeous Marilyn Monroe. Again just as in the first half from Nicola, a mesmerising mix of songs rounded off beautifully with ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.
Speaking of not walking alone, it was really encouraging to see faces from outside the school community in the audience. I know that there were plenty of people who would have liked to have attended too but couldn’t so I’d like say ‘Can we plan something similar please?’ Days later, I’m still on a high from this really wonderful evening.
A HUGE THANK YOU, to Nicola, Clare, Adam and the band for giving their time and talents so generously. A further round of heartfelt thank you’s to the all-important behind the scenes organisation
from Philippa Eeles for production, Diane Bolsher for the idea, Suzie, Simon and Lindsay for the refreshments, Elijah Phillips and Herbie Elton for lighting, Ellen Richardson and Chris Ehrenzeller for printing, Trinity Farm and Weleda for advertising the event, Christopher Bosman for promotion and MC duties, Melanie Eedle for organising the hall and Sarah Oldfield from SO Photography for coming to take photos.
The concert raised £367.00 towards repairing the roof in the main school.
